Zahi Hawass always seems like a pompous ass to me in every interview he does. He claims everyone else is always wrong but he is right. I think he's just trying to protect the Egyptians from being exposed as NOT HAVING built the Sphinx or the Pyramids.

I agree w\you whole-heartedly. The guy should NOT be in charge of Egyptology in Egypt, at all, EVER! After watching him and reading his papers for the past several years, it is obvious he will never listen to anything which MIGHT be "on the cutting edge" or even SLIGHTLY different than the status quo of present "egyptology". I am often disgusted by the lack of open-mindedness in this and other fields. Truly sad.

@aongoer but we do leave things in our architecture for information in the future. The Hoover Dam for example. has a star map imprinted on it, and the designer of the Dam said that the star map is in case in the future if all information is lost and our language is lost, they can look at this map and figure out when the dam was made. SO why can't other civilizations do that?

A huge obstacle in true research of Egypt has been achieved by the arab spring revolt in 2011, Hawass has been removed from his position. We can only hope now, after the years of his deceit and lies, that real research can be done without him stopping it.

@lovesangels What if some cocky pharoh of the past decided to defile a great mysterious monument left by our ancients, the Sphix's head definitely looks more recently sculpted than it's body and it certainly appears a lot smaller. It reminds me of a small child taking off the head of one doll and replacing it with another. It just seems unnaturally out of place. Like Frankenstein's creature.
