Opening track from Sam River's "Dimensions and Extensions" album. Recorded on March 17, 1967 at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Sam Rivers (tenor saxophone); James Spaulding (alto saxophone); Donald Byrd (trumpet); Julian Priester (trombone); Cecil McBee (bass); Steve Ellington (drums).

  • Checking out the rest of your videos I remembered why that cover seemed so familiar: it's a close up of the tunic the model is wearing on Donald Byrd's "Mustang!" XD

  • Thanks for the memories! I still have this recording on vinyl. It was disc 1 of a 2-pocket album called "Involution", part of the Blue Note Re-Issue series (BN-LA453-H2-0798) released in 1975. The second disc was the Andrew Hill Quartet session. In retrospect, the Miles Davis/Gerry Mulligan connection is unmistakable.
