Here's some 1988 footage of Jundokan Kaicho, Miyasato Eiichi, performing Seisan kata. Miyasato Sensei was a direct student of Miyagi Chojun.

totally different. This kata is usually practised from shodan upwards. seisan in isshin ryu is a fundamental white blet kata. the only thing thats common is they share the same name.

  • I see the similarity between this seisan and what I practice in Isshin ryu. This one is more complicated. I feel like mine may be a cheapened, modernized version (check my channel for video of it done). I will have to ask my sensei about the history of this kata.

  • @GojuBob I've been told that you should slip the slapped hand behind your enemy head and then pull it toward the slapping hand (personally i find this to be one of the most cool techniques ever created :) )then, after this gentle surgery to his nose you use the slapped hand to raise his head delivering to open handed uppercuts to his chin.

    I love this kata <3

  • @franklin3321 Seisan is the second most difficult heishu kata in Okinawan Gojuryu behind Suparimpei. It is a Sandan kata This kata was the specialty of Jinan Shinzato, the most qualified of Chojun Miyagi's student, who died during the war.

  • This is a Kihon Kata in Goju. But as one developes all Kata and growth into a Master Level (Sandan) is achieve, it is a requirement to demonstrate not only the proper performance of this Kata (along with the demonstration of all other Kata in curruculum), but to demonstrate the Understanding of the Kata and its applications. OSSU

  • Funny how in Goju, this kata is generally required for sandan, and in isshinryu, it is typically the first kata learned by the karateka.

  • @otokonoyama yes, and he died in '99 -Eiichi Miyazato (宮里 栄一, Miyazato Eiichi?, July 5, 1922 – December 11, 1999)

  • @teddypantelas I do believe that Isshin-ryu's Seisan is derived from the Shorin-ryu version, not the Goju-ryu one. Best to check there for evolutionary information.

  • This is the first Kata learned in Isshinryu. it's interesting to see what Tatsuo Shimabuku did with this kata. The things he kept, the things he changed. It was great seeing where it came from . thanks for posting. Much respect.

  • @bertthepickle knee joint kicks.

    Just dislocating the joint
