Zelaya Vows to Return to Honduras Despite Threats of Arrest by Coup Leaders

The ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has vowed to return to Honduras within the next few days in an attempt to reclaim power. Zelaya was forced out of office in a military coup detat on Sunday. He will reportedly return to Honduras accompanied by the OAS Secretary General, the presidents of Argentina and Ecuador, and the head of the UN General Assembly. But Roberto Micheletti, who was appointed interim leader by the Honduran congress, has given warning that Zelaya will be arrested should he return, regardless of who is traveling with him. We speak with Latin American historian Greg Grandin.

  • How long is America going to continue fomenting coups in South America? Obama should call it a coup now and suspend cooperation now. South America should be independent from America's dominance. Sending some supporters of the countries elites into the streets and thinking this is a reason to accept a coup is ridiculous.

  • Born in Honduras, live in Miami, voted for Clinton and Obama...After seeing the lies said by Democrats about Honduras, I'm changing my party affiliation to Republican, so is all my family and many other Hondurans, Venezuelans, Ecuadorians etc. living in the U.S.

This is not a military take over, this is war of democracy vs communism, good vs evel. If expelled president Zelaya comes back to power he will turn us into a communist state and YOU CAN BET YOUR ARSE WE ARE NOT GOING TO ALLOW IT!!!

  • Born in Honduras, live in nyc, voted republican ...After seeing the lies said by Democrats about Honduras, i mad! how can obama want the chavismo ... sorry obama you will made only 4 years..... many latin people are now unhappy..

  • alls these nations are demanding the return of zelaya because of NWO.

Zelayas own govt tossed him out because they saw what evil was coming. His good freind chavez demands his return....and now so does hillary clinton.

i think i want to move to honduras because i know they are free of this NWO SHIT!....for now

  • A man is known by his friends. Zeyala's friends are Chavez, Ortega, and Castro. Looks like Hund. did right by kicking out the thug wanna be. Zeyala's other freinds are the OAS and Pres Obama. I liked it when we had a President that actually could tell the difference between good and evil.

  • you are not a Honduran voter, they made their choice and it wa zelaya.

  • you are full of bullshit..

since when a referendum is against democracy?

since when limiting the presidential terms to 1!!! democratic?

zelaya is returning get used to it..

no coups will be tolarated again in latin america..

  • Oh yeah, you forgot to mention that Zelaya's best friends are Hugo Chavez and Castro Brothers, and that Zelaya illegally call for a referendum to change the constitution so he can extend his presidential term. It's very simple, we don't want communism!

Would you all relocate with your "Democracy now" to venezuela?? would you??

  • Deathsquads and Negroponte go together like peanut butter and Jelly.

  • Evidence of how stupid the Micheletti regime is:

Micheletti's government is so eager to find a friend that it announced it had been recognized by Israel and Italy — surprising the governments of those countries. Italy withdrew its ambassador to protest the coup, and Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said: "All rumors about Israeli recognition of the new president are wholly unfounded."

  • How did Zelaya betray the country? By raising the minimum wage by 60%? He did nothing illegal, he invoked article 5 of the Honduran Civil Participation Act of 2006. According to this act, all public functionaries can perform non-binding public consultations to inquire what the population thinks about policy measures. It is pretty tragic how some people are trying to find excuses for what happened, protecting the power of a small, rich minority who controls the system.
