0-Steve Took: AMANDA

Steve Took sings Amanda - a wonderful example of Steve Took's potential. If only this 'demo' had been recorded as a single. But Tookie had seen what 'fame' and 'stardom' could do when he and a coach load of Ladbroke Grove-ites travelled to see Marc Bolan perform at Boston Gliderdome and saw Marc back stage looking "like a fragile porcelain doll" and one witness commented that she wondered how long a star shining so brightly could last. So Tookie preferred to play benefit events for worthy causes and small gigs where he mixed in a bit of comedy and social statements such as environmental concerns in with his music. HD Better Made Version when I have time :-)

Cryptic? Me? As it says. People have tapes. So there is more Took. Just as recordings of Bolan have surfaced over the past few years because people have been sitting on them. So now, after eleven years* of me knocking my head against the brick wall of the "Steve Took - Drugged Up Loser" attitude of a number of Bolan fans (names withheld to protect the guilty - for now) things seem to be changing (in a small way).

* And David Mantell doing it for even longer, after all he 'converted' me in 1999!

Yeah, Steve was a great artist in his own right, overshadowed whilst in Tyrannosaurus Rex , by Marc Bolan who was simply fabulous. Steve never quite got seen in his day - thanks for posting Fee, Tony

No problem Tony. Glad you enjoyed it. No he didn't 'get seem' but I hope his profile will be raised in the coming few years :-) There are more recordings out there. But the people with them are (IMHO) hanging onto them until Took's Profile is more prominent as there will be more of a market for their tapes which of course need work to complete them as time=money for most people. So frustrating as it is to wait, my best hope of seeing them released is to get his name about more :-)

Quite agree with Tony!..It does seem Steve was undermined by Marc and his fans and still is today...sure Marc (for me) is n.o 1...but hearing the ever increasing output of Steve's recording (mainly down to you Fee!) I'm now seeing Steve in a new light!...so thanks from me!
