For your viewing pleasure, we are proud to release the first animated short by Makoto Shinkai entitled 彼女と彼女の猫 ("She & Her Cat"), of which is now (unofficially) dubbed in English. This anime short reveals the relationship of a once stray cat ("Chobi") and his new female owner. This is indirectly a prequel to the animated movie, 5 Centimeters Per Second.

This animated short was released in 1999, and for his work, Makoto Shinkai was recognized as the winner of the "DoGA CG Animation" contest in 2000.

Quality dub. It's nice that anime fandom has reached a critical mass in the English speaking world where good taste in anime can be expected to include and attract voice talent.

@poonpoonlam: Do you have some interview link or evidence from the film to back up your claim about the terminal illness? Why include the subplot about the cat's relationship with an immature female cat? It is meant to parallel the untold story in some way. You fill in the blanks.

@poonpoonlam The premise behind this short is that the cat, Chobi, loves the one who found him ("She") unconditionally. It's also showing a relationship between owner x pet, but through the pet's perspective, rather than through the eyes of the owner. Hope that clears it up a bit for you. : )
