@VintageTexas59 ah, good to know. Is a Fostex M-80 good for a clean/crisp, fat/warm sound? I found one thats said to be in very good working condition for $200. The thing I love about the tascam/teac is that crisp/warm sound

The 22-2 is a 2-track machine and will work as a final mix down deck, soundwise not so "fat sound" as 3340 but still OK.

@VintageTexas59 Is the Tascam 22-2 as good as the Teac 3340s? I know they both have 15ips, but the 3340 has 10" reels, the 22 does not. If I don't need the multi-track recording, and just need a mastering deck, is the 22-2 as professional sounding as the 3340s? Thanks

Another nice multi-track like the 3340 S but newer was 3440.
Tascam 32, 34, 22-2 and 22-4 all came with 7-1/2 and 15 speed.
A few of the older Teac's 2300 + 3300 series had high speed option and 2-track.
Personally I like the 3340 S, 3440 and Teac/Tascam early 44 of the older units.
But Tascam are sweet machines also, it just depends what you want.
Good luck on your search,

ok, thanks. I'm looking for a fat sound, and love the sound of this 3340, so I'll probably go with that. Do you have any for sale?
jgk381 1 year ago
Sorry, no 3340S left for sale, but another good model is 3440 ( also 4-track sync funtion) or if you want a final mix down deck: Tascam 32 with 7-1/2 and 15 speed.
Newer style but excellent sound.

@VintageTexas59 cool, thanks. i'll keep them in mind. I found a 3340 for a good price, but the guy said he had it tested and one of the channels didn't measure to the max high freq as the specs suggest it should. But the other 3 did, and I might not even need all 4 tracks, so I'm thinking of buying it. Plus, he said he just put the bass track on that one. I think he only is asking like $150-$200. Do you think the problem with the channel could be a red flag for further issues though?

I would look for something else instead, poor channel signal can be
leaky caps inside or headwear that can travel to the other channels in near future.
