How do these planes get the water? It's not like prop planes that touch down on a lake. Do they get filled up before takeoff?

Thumb up if the first thing u noticed was PlanesTV.com

@topcover2000 Ah, Here in Southern California, the terrain does not allow. The annual fires take place in the hills and mountains where terrain is difficult for people on foot, let-alone aircraft.

@TheBassguy1 I live in Colorado. I don't have to watch the news, I can look out my window. For accuracy and effectiveness, a lower drop works best, when terrain and other safety considerations allow. Just yesterday,a helicopter dropped a 350 gallon bucket of water along a fenceline next to a house from no more than 75-100 feet up. It saved the house. That was at the Douglas County fire, in the Franktown area. I'm done with this thread.

@topcover2000 I watch the news. I see these planes and helicopters dropping water. And yes they drop it from around that altitude.
-
@TheBassguy1 This was strictly a demonstration. You may have noticed there was no fire beneath the plane.

just saying ..... that all dried poop and piss

I dont know why they drop it from so high. Its likely that 60% percent of the water will evaporate before it reaches the fire. Especially with the insane temps California really has. Everybody says "Ohhh California has the best weather in the world." Which isnt always the case. Just the other day it was 110. And im about 15 minutes from the ocean.
