I believe you will have to prepare the eggplant stovetop...is that a possibility?

You are welcome...that was the way my family (mother) taught me...and it really gives a nice smokey taste to the eggplant. What I really love is you can make and freeze a bunch of the eggplant in advance...thaw it and use it when you need.
