6. New Business (continued from Part 6): E. Consider resolution approving the application for matching funds ($30,000) from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for the Kalona City Park Resurfacing Project; application submission date is April 10. (continued from Part 6) Tabled until next meeting, April 6. F. Acceptance of Resignation from City Council by Aaron Kos. Read Kos' Letter of Resignation. Kos is moving to family farm outside of Kalona. G. Re: Filling Council Vacancy left by Kos resignation: Herington notes that 2 citizens "have expressed interest in becoming part of the City Council" (Barb Christenson and David Kempf) and Council discussed ways to proceed. Idea of Special Election was dismissed; interview of interested citizens and appointment by Council was embraced. Herington expressed eagerness to fill position and have the new member "seated by the next meeting". David Kempf, who was in attendance, was given an opportunity to address the Council regarding his background, interest in the position, and willingness and availability to speak "individually or in a group" with council members.
