And it could have held twice this much, and even more in the second trunk up front.

So, Pontiac Solstice sales are down, after the initial mad rush to be on the waiting list? Who woulda thunkit.

After the ones who just HAD to be the first to own what is essentially a four-wheeled motorcycle, who else would be buying? Certainly not people who might reasonably expect a sports car to hold a few bags of groceries, or a 50-pound sack of potting soil, or 40 brick pavers, or a duffle bag and backpack for a weekend trip. All of which I can and have carried in the front and rear trunks of Old Red.

Parking lot doughnuts, burnouts, drifting and 180's are all a blast. But sometimes, practicality trumps Big Fun. It's a pretty safe bet Bob Lutz doesn't shop for his own groceries, or he never would have approved the Solstice for production with that ridiculous "trunk".

It should be a never-ending source of embarrassment for him and his engineers that the Miata folding hardtop has more trunk space with the top down than the Solstice's folding soft-top has with the top UP.

And as the owner of two GM cars that were designed and built here in America, I'm entitled to rip GM up, down and sideways.

  • haha that suck you got a 4 banger

  • @ATLhoodrich With gas climbing toward $4.00/gallon (again), getting the four-cylinder turned out to be the second-best decision I ever made. The first was buying a car that has lasted me almost 28 years ;)

  • The groceries just kept coming out..lol..I never really put anything in my Fiero. Only thing I ever put in it was a Suitcase for a 4 day trip. Never put anything in the front though.

  • @TheGameCriers That front compartment keeps things cooler, but it's a little cramped, especially if the air conditioning stuff is taking up even more room:) I went basic back in '84; no A/C, no power anything.

  • Plus if you have any food in that trunk,it's already cooked by the time you get home !

  • @MichelleDeVille It doesn't get that hot back there. And for things that have to stay frozen for more than a couple of hours, there's the trunk up front. That's the beauty of the Fiero.

  • @ghidfg Without saddlebags? This I gotta see. Make a video. :D

  • i can store more in my motor cycle

  • Ha Ha! It's like a clown car, the stuff coming out just won't stop! I had an immaculate loaded silver '84 a few years ago and the people in the parking lot at the grocery store could not believe how much I could stuff into that car! What a cool little machine, I'll have to get another one for a project one day.

  • @AUSTiNo426 Nope. It's bone stock. And this remanufactured one will even chirp the tires. It's surprised some modern V6's.
