赤壁 Red Cliffs Movie Press Meeting (5/10/07, Longer Version)

Longer version.

The entire cast of the Red Cliffs movie (being directed by John Woo) appeared at a press meeting in Beijing for the first time yesterday. They have been filming the movie for 2 weeks, and will continue to October 2007. The first part of the movie is expected to come out in summer of 2008. The second part later in 2008.

CAST: * Tony Leung as Zhou Yu, the chief strategist of the Kingdom of Wu; * Chang Chen as Sun Quan, first emperor of the Kingdom of Wu; * Hu Jun as Zhao Yun, a top general of the Kingdom of Shu; * Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhuge Liang, the chief strategist of the Kingdom of Shu; * Lin Chi-ling as Younger Qiao, the wife of Zhou Yu; * Zhao Wei as Sun Shangxiang, the younger sister of Sun Quan who married Liu Bei; * You Yong as Liu Bei, first emperor of the Kingdom of Shu; * Zhang Fengyi as Cao Cao, the last Chancellor of Eastern Han Dynasty and the pioneer of the Kingdom of Wei;

I read an article yesterday which said John Woo renamed "Gan Ning" to "Gan Xing" in the movie. That doesn't make sense to me... why they would rename such a famous Wu general.

its a pity ken watanabe won't be playing cao cao. He would have been really good. I think it'd be great if there was a japanese or korean (aside from taneshiro) in the casting since it's so popular in those 2 places too

John Woo is someone who always value friendship between men. You can tell from most of the movies he made - the theme was always about the bond between 2 male friends. So I think deep down he must be hurt by how Chow Yun-Fat let him down and pulled out the last minute.

Luckily he found a real friendship in Tony Leung. Before Tony became a superstar of HK and Asia, John Woo once offered him a chance to play in one of his movies. Tony repaid John big time by bailing him out this time around
