When people are raised to be theists and that belief is enforced by their family and community is is very similar both in practice and results when people are brought with the irrational belief that judaism is a superior race and that one can be an atheist and a jew despite the obvious contradiction. Dave is an example of such a religious "Atheist", who admits to celebrating jewish holidays and going to temple.

alan933---Why can't Atheists love those that persecute them? Because they persecute people. Why can't they just stop persecuting people? What's the Christian nonsense that we should love everyone on Earth, even those who willfully cause us harm, like Christians often do? Sheesh!

Adding more tolerance to the Bible?? Tolerance ONLY has virtue when its applied appropriately, not universally. I hear no love in this guy's comments, just pride, anger, fear, hate, and guilt. Why can't atheists love those that persecute them?

I think the guy here ignores the very real problem with outing yourself as an atheist; parents. Parents are not ignorant, or at least should never be described as such. It's disrespectful, and they're your parents. I have no answer to this, but I do mention it as a point to ponder.
It sux too because parents, typically, raise their children as they believe, not as they've proven.

I'm scared to outwardly show something denoting me as an atheist. Let say I put a bumper sticker on my car. My landlord comes by and sees that. Perhaps he's Christian. I'm out on my ass.
