The original band had begun the 2nd album before it split up and Greg had already committed to leaving Crimson for the then newly formed ELP. He somewhat reluctantly agreed to help complete the 2nd album but only in a minimal capacity ... by providing vocals (which, IMO, he did beautifully with In the Wake of Poseidon). Fripp could easily fill in the base lines with PG and was more interest in Lake's vocals. Thus marked the beginnings of Crimson's continuing saga of short-lived line-ups.

It is never the same without the calm presence & sound of Fripp....just my opinion

ill bet giles an giles eventually realized what a mistake it was to quit crimson. with little fame an fortune except for mcdonald he went on to form foreiner. giles an giles probably had the least success compared to other parting members. an now look at em trying to relive their hayday. what a shame with giles probably the best drummer crimson ever had.

    Made me lol there.

I can almost imagine the crowd sitting in wheelchairs in a few years cheering whatever crimson lineup is currently preforming ;)

I still don't understand why Peter Giles replaced Greg lake on bass for the "In the Wake of Poseidon" album.

robert fripp doesnt want too play these songs anymore so why shouldnt former crimson members play them. those first 4 albums are the most amazing works of their career and alot of people want too hear them, which you are not going too get from king crimson who if they ever reform will only play songs from larks tongues onwards and probably schizoid man but thats it, so 21st schizoid band were a great opportunity too hear classic king crimson
