Washington DC is filled with research organizations... so called 'think tanks' that span the political spectrum and range from neutral to strongly ideological. Some specialize in specific topic areas, such as in social problems, economics or defense. All provide opinions on policy and aspects of governance. **Dr. Jamal Barzinji of the International Institute of Islamic Thought believes that American Muslims can also make their voices heard in policy-making spheres by supporting and encouraging the growth of Muslims think tanks. He says that Muslim think tanks could not only influence US domestic policy, but could also help inform and soften America's foreign policy. This process, he says, has already begun, as American Muslims become increasingly aware of the importance of articulating their views on issues that concern them.** Washington's think tanks also house officials from previous administrations who often return to government when their political party comes back in power.
