This little movie shows how my 16 mm cel-animated film, "Kidnapping", was made.

I shot this little documentary way back in 1972, when I was a young animation hobbyist. (I later became a professional animator, making animated TV commercials, titles and special effects for feature films. I have been doing that for over 30 years now...)

For more information about animation as a hobby, as well as some tech info and some movie camera history, see my webpages: http://www.saunalahti.fi/animato

  • What kind of paint did you use to paint the cels?

  • "Animation" paint, specially made. But, you can use ordinary acrylic or PVA artist's paints, and even ordinary latex wall paint! The latter needs to be applied rather thick, in order to cover properly.

  • Back then, from a supplier of animation materials. Today, you can use "overhead projector" sheets, available in most office supply stores.

  • you are really talented even back then. thank you for all the information you provide.
