is the dry pile a layden jar?

No it is just a big stack of round foil and paper. Some use three glass rods like 3 feet high to hold the rounds in the stack or pile. Some people used glass tubes about 2 inches across while others used nothing to hold it but then coated the pile in resin.

A dry pile is a battery and with hundreds of layers or mini cells the voltage is extremely high. They can easily be over 1KV. The degradation is slow slow they seem to last for ever.

A layden jar is just an old style capacitor.

You can make a layden jar like the home brew cap for tesla coils.

Take wine bottle and fill then most the way with saltwater and then put mineral oil at the top as an insulator. Then make a hole in the cork or lid and put a metal probe down past the oil into the saltwater. Then use and wrap tinfoil on the out side most the way up. If you need to "tune" the cap for resonance with a coil then remove the foil a little way from the top until properly tuned.

A fun capacitor for static is to get 3 panes of glass. Use foil squares almost the size of the glass. Sandwich the foil in the glass but leave enough foil to connect to on the out side but not in the same place for both sheets or it will arc-out.

Imagine this take one piece of glass, sandwich that glass with 2 pieces of foil on each side then sandwich that sandwich with a piece of glass for each side.
Remember don't make the foil too big or it will arc out around the middle glass. See-> |l|l|

tesla found the resonance of the earth by tuning in with coils and capacitor
its that simple

Schumann Resonance.

well, if it wasnt for the small problem that the Schumann Resonance wasnt figured out until 1952 then i would agree with you.
To be able to use the Schumann Resonnance, one would half to be able to monitor the Ionosphere... how would Tesla accomplish this.?

well, it wasnt CALLED the Schuman Resonance when Tesla discovered the ionosphere... technicality i guess.
