Folks, we all love Ralph but let's get real...his voice has always been very weak. Johnny simply took 'My Girl' to a whole different plateau! I mean....think about it...David Ruffin's vocals done by Ralph? Johnny had to rescue the song. I do love Ralph though, but he was way out of his element.

besides the Temps, New Edition is the best. very underrated group

I think they went with the background singers because (1) there is no bass singer in New Edition (unlike with the Temps); and (2) Mike Bivins & Ronnie DeVoe (NE's rappers) ain't known for their vocal talent, so Temps-level harmonizing just wouldn't be there. If you notice, the female background singers (especially on "Get Ready", towards the end) fill in the gap. The Temps were definitely vocally better than NE (Johnny Gill exempted). However, NE did the Temps justice with this performance.

New Edition might not have 5 quality singers like the Temptations, but live they do sing all there songs and backgrounds. They are indeed some good singers don't be fool by this performance.
