Haha, that is true! Lol, yeah, it is very interesting stuff! If you want a good video on Muay Boran's ground work and a bit of its stand up, you can check out Kru Preang here:

That's awesome =O I always knew they had to do some kind of ground work. Anyone who's fought in a war makes up ground work, it can't really be ignored. (I'm suppose to be leaving for church... But YOU decided to be awesome and make me want to look this stuff up... Jerk...) lol jk

I imagine it would hurt getting hit by the ropes...some fighters used to agree upon wetting the ropes to make them tougher (which would cut the fighters up pretty bad). Haha, yeah. Most people don't know this, but Muay Boran did/does include groundwork (particularly Muay Chaiya). Yeah, many people used to die from the impacts in addition to people not knowing how to deal with significant injuries. For a good demonstration on Muay KaadChuek you can watch this:

Many documents related to Muay Boran were destroyed in the sacking of Thailand's old captital Ayutthaya resulting in Muay Boran's eventual demise. As the 1900's came along, many trainers decided to focus more on teaching modern Muay Thai to foreigners just to make money. Both of these would eventually spell Muay Boran's death. There are only two credible schools that i know of in Thailand which teach Muay Boran today. Kru Praeng teaches Muay Chaiya and Buddhai Swan teaches Muay KaadChuek.

At times of peace, the War arts of Muay Boran were generally used for personal well being and entertainment. At that point in time, Muay Boran evolved into Muay KaadChuek. Muay KaadChuek began to catch on with the general populace, with everyone practising it, from commoners to the King himself. Muay Thai, as we know it today evolved from Muay KaadChuek as a result of a death in Lak Muan Arena during the late 1920's. All the rules were introduced after that incident (gloves, rounds etc).

    TBC.

    Ah cool :)

It all started with Muay Boran, which was either developed alongside or after the creation of Krabi Krabong (Thai weapon fighting). Muay Boran acts as an umbrella term for numerous "Muay" styles from Ancitent Thailand. These styles were Muay Thasao from the north, Muay Korat from the east or northeast, Muay Lopburi from the central area and Muay Chaiya from the south. Unfortunately, many of the styles are now lost, not including Muay Chaiya which is still going.

    To be continued.

I have a question. I know what MuayThai and trained some for my MMA but I'm mostly a BJJ fighter. I've never heard of Muay KaadChuek before. You said that is the original muaythai? Is that like Muay Boran? Because I've heard that Muay Boran is the oldschool war version of MuayThai. I cannot imagen fighting with those ropes man... I'd need to be FAST on my shoot because I would NOT want to get hit by someone wearing those! I heard people use to die often when fights were like that...

Most people like Buakaw have very short careers in fighting because they train SO HARD as children up until they are adults and by that point, their body is pretty much done. I hope it's not like that for Buakaw though cause he would be cool to see fight in the UFC. I've never seen a Thai fighter from Thailand train in BJJ or wrestling. It's like grappling is just not popular or something there. MT is the main deal there.
