@amjabs69 I agree that Gomez never faced a natural 122lbs that would be considered dangerous,Zarate moved up in weight to challenge him as well as Pintor, the others were viewed as capable fighters but not great once again agreed, that doesnt diminish Gomez's accomplishments(not saying you implied that)Sanchez faced solid opponents in Lopez, good fighter,Castillo another good fighter as well as a green Nelson and Laporte but the fight that propelled him to stardom was the Gomez fight.
@amjabs69 Gomez beat the best opposition available including Zarate and Pintor the better known of them all, saying that Sanchez was "light years better" of Gomez sounds a little arrogant and unknowledgeable,Sanchez was pretty tall for the weight class,Gomez didnt carry over his power at 126 and beyond,he only fought there a handful of times, oddly enough his last two ko wins came at 140,Sanchez resume shows a green Nelson,Gomez of course(his best win)Lopez,Castillo not stellar but good
The truth is that Gomez had beaten a string of nothing special fighters at 122, with the exception of Zarate, who was coming up in weight. Not only was Sal Sanchez light years better than Gomez's 122lb comp, he was also bigger than all of those half-assers. Gomes never, ever whacked guys out at 126 the way he did 122.
@mrgonzagomez At least Gomez didn't quit like chavez, dlh, morales, antonio demarco, marquez, ortiz, just to name a few. All good fighters, all mexicans and all QUITTERS
