I'd have to see the build sheet (window sticker) to believe
that it came from the factory with a 409. Only a few Impalas
came with the 409 (SS) engines. I'll go to the crematory
knowing that!

Your wrong.

I thought the only '61 SS was the Impala?
I also thought that the Belair had a pillar / no hard top.

I'm sure someone will buy it but is is not original. Correct, '61 Impala SS,s were the only ones to get the 409 although the SS could have other engines. No dual 4 bbl. It was a single 4bbl w/360 hp. I believe the Sun Tach came with the 409 and optional otherwise. Funny how things work out. By '63 you could get a 340hp hydraulic lifter 409 with a Powerglide, dressed in chrome, in your Station Wagon if you wanted. I wouldn't mind one of them now!

The 409 came out mid year 1961,was a bored out 348 at first. The 1961 409s did not hold up in Nascar due to the block being a bored out 348.The 1961 Impala are not the desired Impalas, most did not like the bubble top.No automatic either,a 4 speed which the automatic would not hold up
