Directed and filmed by Refugees International (RI) Board Member Matt Dillon while on an RI assessment mission to south Sudan in February 2009, this short documentary shows the current struggles of returning south Sudanese refugees and the communities that are hosting them.

Approximately 2 million south Sudanese refugees have returned home following the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement between north and south Sudan that ended a 21-year civil war. However, tensions between the north and south are on the rise again, laregely because of extreme poverty and lack of access to water, sanitation, education, health care and jobs.

Refugees International advocates for lifesaving assistance and protection for displaced people and promotes solutions to displacement crises. In south Sudan, the U.S. and the international community must support the implementation of the peace agreement and increase funding for basic social services and income opportunities.

  • No money for medicine, no money for food, no money to build schools and hospitals, no money to build pipe lines for water, BUT there is plenty of money to buy guns and start wars!

  • @JackRoller008 That's disgusting, they are humans, they bleed just the same as anyone else, they feel pain just the same.. They've been the victims of unfortunate circumstances, but still they're at a higher state of being than an unenlightened neonazi like you. Why don't you take your hatred elsewhere, this video is for those who have compassion. Oh, and I know that concept doesn't register in your tiny mind, so you might want to try reading the definition :).

    South Sudan, Congrats !

It means self determination, freedom, hope for the future and hope for the future of theirts children.

  • to think that the ancestors of those people helped spawn the nile valley high culture...it is so sad what happened there

  • Matt Dillon in NOT chillin! He's doing something very worthy..."Sad eyes don't lie"

  • I can understand Africans being desperate for food or clothes but why do they kill each other? What gain are they getting from killing their own it makes no sense it's just wasted energy. So i think whites are paying poor Africans who are so desperate for food and money that they will kill they own people to eat. Don't eat or drink for months and see how "sane" you"ll be. While whites and arabs reap all the benefits. Whites know in order to take their resources they have to kill them.

  • I beleave this video is true.and I give them thank for reveal the trust.

  • Development can not be achieved with these various hand to hand programs of the various NGO. The government and we the people of South Sudan should take up tangible development and proper policy regarding absolute development and approach on security. The south is very volatile but with skilled south sudanese labour from the west will highly make our nation the best in the world. I am not against NGO but I think most of their project do not do much in helping our people. nice video

  • The problem with south sudan they are still living in the greevness and aftermaths of the civil war which killed many people and soldiers. The main problem is that due to all the wealth of the oil that has been found no one knows how to fund this money to build schools, hospitals and etc but to look at the south sudanese their is alot of well found upon corruption there.

  • All this bitchin and moaning about America, bigoil mineral consortiums is true, However it is the corrupt governments of Africa which allow it and they use the force of arms against an unarmed people to strip them of their rights and property. This system would exist and perhaps be worse even if America did not exist. Greed and profit controled with a moral code is the answer. AND the armed citizen.
