Reminders are going out to freelancers and contractors to get self-assessment tax returns finished.

As the deadline fast approaches, HM Revenue and Customs is warning of a £100 fine to those who miss the deadline.

Professional advice service Unbiased.co.uk estimates £104 million will be paid in fines for late forms.

In addition the website claims £319million will be paid for miscalculations and surcharges on unpaid tax for the previous year.

The paper deadline closed in October, but you can still file your tax return for 2008-2009 online.

5.8 million people submitted their tax returns online last year.

Thats an increase of 50% on the previous year.
