I am required to speed run this game thanks to romscout and the "Bad game exchange" deal at SDA.
This level is theoretically much easier than 2-1, just because you need only 100 disks to complete it. I would much rather need 200 on this level than on 2-1 because this one has huge groups of disks and a few Wing powerups which make it pretty easy. Fortunately, there's a good group of disks on the way to the boss. I can get exactly 100 disks before I collect Wing, which is perfectly ideal btu also pretty inconsistent. I usually need 1-2 disks when I get into the final room, which sadly costs a second or two because of strange flying mechanics.
I miss a few jumps here just because of how awkward they are. Sorry.
Boss is really strange. If he flies around and drops the sparkles, I can just pound his face by turning into a spiny and jumping. Otherwise, it's tough to hit him. If he shoots the 'homing' sparkles, it is fastest to explode because they hit through the spike ball transformation. The other sparkles do not hit through the spike ball so I can just keep bouncing on his head. This is still slower than his other attack, but works just as well.
Hopefully I can gather a few more explosions in the upcoming levels, although I know I won't need them for the world 3 boss. I can always get more health through a strategic suicide by a checkpoint (rather, hit a useful checkpoint, collect disks, and suicide back to the checkpoint). Anyways, enjoy!

Level 3 is a very tricky one to plan. It has a lot of clusters of CDs spread apart, and it's underwater. I still need to time a few different routes and work on health management but I have a good idea of what I'm doing for that stage.
