Why shouldnt you take him seriously? Ive read comments about people saying hes a dictator, yet when there was a coup d'etat it wasnt the army that brought him back to power, but it was the people. He just stands up for the latin american people that are being openly exploited by the US. So please, if you arent informed, or just watch fabricated news like fox dont comment, it makes you look like an idiot...

He was democratically elected, so i' m going to assume that the majority of Venezuelans like him and voted for him. I say leave him and his country alone. His metaphors can be offensive to some, but o well, nothing we say or do is going to stop him from saying them.

The US took him seriously enough to try to start a coup and have him overthrown. Maybe that's why he jokes about Bush being the devil. Or it could be because Chavez has watched how International business, led by the US, have raped south American countries of their resources. To call someone crazy is dismissive and often takes no account of how someone shaped those views. The same way many americans believe terrorist hate us for our freedom and never listen to the real motives.

@appel123 it is a fact that if any leader on the planet stand up to corporatism that person is first marginalized, if that doesn't work he is ridiculed, and then finally painted as mentally unstable and dangerous .
