17 Year Cicada Shrill in the Backyard

The Chicago 17 year Cicada makes it's mating call in my backyard. Tens of thousands of these critters litter my trees, lawn, garage and plants. The sound is coming from the highest point of the trees and lasts ALL DAY!!! It is between 80 and 90 Decibels...Video from May 30, 2007

Amazing! I'm in Massachusetts and I usually don't hear them until August 1st. The last couple of years they've shown up August 1 to the date. We don't get all of these though and I have never seen one, only heard them. WOW! I don't think I would feel too comfortable with all those. Don't hurt the poor thing! It sounds so scared.

Partyin' and lookin' for love! I live in Chicago and we didn't hear or see a single one of those critters, but I remember driving out west to the interstate or into the suburbs I could definitely hear them. They are amazing, fascinating creatures.

u know, to attract the cicadas urselves, just snap ur finger (literally) it attracts males, since thats an female call :P

man ide hate to live around there all that noise i love casidas but man too much noise and ive never see that many cadies all at ounce ime from dearborn mi and nowhere near that many
