Any good musician will know that punk bass has always been played with a pick due to the speed and attack needed in the style. A boomy, thuddy bass line just would not work. Here's to bassists who know how to use their instrument for the good of the band!

yeah i play bass in a thrash metal band and i use a pick because of all the alternate picking we do. it doesn't mean you can't fucking play with your fingers, just because you choose NOT to, sometimes, depending on the type of music you play, using a pick is the way to go...doesn't make you less of a bass player.

@Lover2Hate - Dude(tte), playing the bass with a pick is just one of the many techniques available: pick, fingerstyle, slap/ pop, even with the goddamn thumb if you like!

I play with pick and fingerstyle, so what? In fact, I prefer the pick in my current band because it gives the bass sound more attack and presence. It's not about what technique you use, it is all about groove and playing for the song. Who cares if it's with a piece of plastic or with your digits?
