I did some research on the question about peppermint oil and Menthol oil applied to the scalp to encourage growth. When I say research I do not mean a Google search I mean looking at medical literature and controlled studies on Pubmed.com or Ovid. I found a study that basically showed that the people who applied the cream with menthol vs. placebo showed increased skin temperature and blood flow in the skin and muscle. I found no studies on peppermint oil. Menthol does increase blood flow, but as to whether increased blood flow causes increased hair growth....I haven't found anything supporting that. If anyone has let me know. What other concoctions have you heard of that promise longer stronger hair from just rubbing it on your scalp?

  • I think that using peppermint oil on your scalp does help your hair grow because of my own experiences with it. Last year in November I've used it about 8 times (twice a week) and like a month later my mom measured my hair and told me that it grew at least 2 inches. However, like you said, we're all different, but that's the fastest that my hair has ever grown.

  • That's awesome, thanks for sharing. I will let my friend know and see if she gets results from it too. take care!

  • yay for EBM! i really like ur channel 'cos you are coming from a diff perspective; you are one of the very few on YT (that i ve seen) that use real scientific evidence when talking about natural hair ! thanks for the video :)

  • Your very welcome!!! Thank you for your comment I hated EBM as a student, now I see how it's actually quite applicable to many things even my favorite topic...Hair!

  • U trim long hair every 3 months or so to prevent split ends n hair needs like a refresh

  • Does the Menthol from NewPorts count???? I mean it's going straight thru the blood stream!!! LOL!!! Just Kidding??:-) But really, this video was very informative. Iam a new natural and am always looking for ways to help my scalp and overall hair to become healthier...And yes I know that smoking cigarrettes constrict blood vessels....I was really just kidding..

  • My hair grows fast all year round. Even in the winter months. But I eat healthy and drink water. Plus I keep my hair and scalp clean.

  • Okay this video kinda makes me feel better, since I think i'm going bald (i'm female) but the ends have the white things on it...and not those gel looking roots. From what i gathered...it means they're sheading hairs...

  • @amaka38 yes

  • @Skitty91 do you wash it out

  • love your philosophy on trimming hair.

  • Great video. On the issue of peppermint. It does more than just stimulate the scalp. You also have to realized that the smell of peppermint and soothing affects allows us to relax cause stress to decrease, which also is factor in hair thinning and hair loss. I've used it in the past and I also wash my hair with peppermint castile soap and I will never go back to another shampoo. It cleanses my hair well, it feels great, it stimulates, and relaxes me causing tension to be released from my head.

  • Doo Gro stimulating growth oil....I've seen tremendous growth personally from using it. After a bad braiding session, I had NO edges left...I used doogro and a month later my edges are looking fuller. oh The braiding was done way back in november and I only saw significant growth after using doo gro :)
