A company called StartupNation had a contest for the best 100 home based businesses. During the interviews of home based business owners for their contest, they found that over 150 million people in North America run a business from home. The Buerau of Labor Stistics state that more than half of businesses work from home. They also found that because of the tough economy, that number is growing even stronger.
StartupNation found that people who have a home based business are in it more than just to make money, they also want to help other people with their products. They found these entrepreneurs looked for areas where people needed help, places in their life that were neglected and found ways to fill those needs.
Home based businesses that were interviewed for the contest ranged from back yard chicken coops to cloth diapers. They are all going global and want to see their product make an impact on society. They all stated the money is good, but their main objective is to help others with their idea.
The bad economy is not stopping people from starting a home business. Whether people have been laid off, or forced into early retirement, their taking their previous skills and passions and starting their own business. Once they get up and running they have found they really like being their own boss and being able to help more people than they ever thought possible.
StartupNation also found that most all of home businesses are online. They are hitting all the social media sites, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and using them as their primary way of advertising. People with home a business are so passionate about their product, they want to share with everyone they come in contact with. It is not all about making money, they genuinely care about helping others.
There are people that have come up with products for going green, to help the environment. Dating services, head lice remedies, different types of salsas, debt relief help, anything and everything that they may be passionate about.
I am a home based business owner, and my passion is helping others in marketing their product or services. I found a lot of people have great ideas on how to help people with their products, but in order to be successful you need to learn how to market.
