credit cards, passwords etc... are all safe regardless of whether someone can listen in on your internet traffic. Web browsers use ssl to encrypt everything between you and your bank or company.
If the attacker is really evil they could try to replace your banking website with their own evil copy that steals your password... but that's phishing and most users know to look for the little green bar that says they're connected to the real website.
