I sing this aria as a dedication to Stuart Burrows (1933-) from Cilfynydd, South Wales, an internationally acclaimed Mozart tenor who had also been a gifted Rugby player. Before finding fame as a singer, Stuart taught my brother Colin at Bargoed South Junior Boys' School. After graduating at Cardiff, Colin joined the Welsh National Opera as a tenor.

I love this rendition the best of any I have heard. I had to go to Isaiah 40 and experience the JOY of this prophecy.

Handel was a sublime genius and was in tears on finishing the manuscript of Messiah in only three weeks. It is said he hardly ate or slept during the composition. I have had the good fortune to perform this work several times.
