  • the tutorial is good but that stance isn't really so good when you are going to mute the strings with youre trumming arm against the bridge like when you play blues.

  • @1mannen1 Hey! Thanks for the comment. This tutorial is for beginners. The technique you discuss is intermediate / advanced. More advanced techniques sometimes require adjustments in this basic position. I hope that helps.

  • You aren't accommodating the bottom 5% who can't strum like that and require a center lap playing position. I couldn't in a million years play like this, and I'm not alone.

  • I'm not sure I understand. You CAN do this...and anything else you put your mind to. It won't take a million years, but it will take a positive attitude and practice. Do you have a specific question? Otherwise, all I can say is...You got this bro!

  • hey dude, this is an awesome tutorial :D very clear and quality :)

i jsut have one problem. When i play i place my thumb where you say ever since i can remember, but my thumb hurts and gets worn out quickly. this happens when i am play major/min/etc type chords. i have no idea how to fix this problem, can you help me? thank you in advance.

  • This is a very common problem. The muscles in the hand used to grip the guitar are not ordinarily used in everyday life, so they need to become developed. There are some grip workout devices you can buy in various stores...or else you can practice on your guitar. Just form a bar chord and practice squeezing and releasing the chord. Do this for a few minutes each day for a couple of weeks and those muscles should start strengthening up!! I hope that helps!

  • i got mine two days ago i knew that shit before >x<

  • Thank you for the video!

  • thanks you, good advice. It seems very important to get it right to avoid pain later.

  • @TheBigMclargehuge Actually, I just hold my guitar like a classical guitarist. Different bodies have different requirements, and the strum-arm position as you describe it causes me only strain and pain. Part of our unique tone as a player is our body mechanics as nature has laid it out. For me to try to play contrary to what my body demands would hinder me.

  • I trained myself to use the proper thumb positioning a couple of years ago, and it did help me stop accidentally striking or muting strings, but I've been developing my lead technique a lot recently, and I find that the proper thumb positioning impedes my ability to play on the higher frets, makes wide fret stretches more difficult, and makes the guitar move around a lot more.

It also means I have to have the guitar at chest height when standing, which just isn't Rock and Roll.
