Go Bubbe. Thanks for the wonderful video. I always enjoy making my own Bubbe's soup. There is just not substitution for Mama loschen during cooking.

This glossed over the removal of fat from the surface of the soup. It has to be CHILLED for the fat to solidify on the surface. If you are in a hurry, throw in some ice cubes and scoop out the fat as it clings to the ice. BUT take the pot of soup off the heat and allow it to cool before putting in the ice.
Parsnip seems to be a Jewish addition to chicken soup. What do you think?

Yes this a very quick method however leaving the ice cube in too long may dilute the soup.
As far as parsnip is concerned, it has a sweet flavor and is another vegetable to enhance the chicken soup or for that matter any other soup.

Check out episode #8 for the basic chicken soup. This episode #9 was about extending the soup if you needed to, for a gathering from more then your average family meal for example a holiday when you are having many guests and you have to feed the army and how many chickens can you use and still have the homemade flavor. -Bubbe
