The motivational structure with private insurance is all wrong. You make a profit exactly to the degree that you take money in and avoid paying it out whenever possible. No system is perfect, and anything can be done poorly, but when you know going in that the switches are set all wrong, that does make a difference.

It amazes me that people don't simply follow the first rule of investigation: Follow the money. Who stands to lose or gain billions?

I hope you are not so Utopian to believe that the private sector can save every 64 year old woman that can live for $4,000 a month; most states rely almost entirely on the private sector and cases like this still happen everyday.
