STUDENTS are imprisoned. TEACHERS are threatened. PEOPLE ARE KILLED.

Journalists in Moldova are KIDNAPPED, while journalists from Romania are GATHERED and SENT BACK to Romania.

The Moldovan COMMUNIST OFFICIALS say that if people gather to protest once again, there will be DEATHS again.

HUMAN RIGHTS are being VIOLATED by Vladimir VORONIN's regime, with no significant reaction by either the EU or the USA.

Parents Look for Their Missing Children in the Kishinev Police Stations. Police Abuse

Tens of persons have shown up this morning in front of the General Police Department in the capital of the Moldovan Republic. While some were there to send parcels with clothes to the detainees, others were still desperately looking for their relatives.

A mother:
After three days of looking for him, they have finally confirmed us he is here. I have no clue as to the file he has, on which grounds he was arrested, nothing.

Although a list of the names of the detainees was posted in front of the Police Station, families say that the list is not complete.

Policeman:
One moment, please.

A mother:
I don't know anything about my daughter, please... I have raised her all by myself; only God knows what I've been going through. Maybe she's been hungry or cold and she's been crying, where is my child?? Give me back my child, I don't care for anything else!

There's no telling where and who... Here on the list they mention that he has been retained for three days. And they say that yesterday there was a second hearing in Court, and that the whole thing can be extended for three more days yet. And we don't know anything, we're just waiting [...].

Policeman:
Who is [name]?

Tell me, please, how do we find out what file is being tried? Or the name of the investigator?

Policeman:
That is something I cannot tell you [...].

Well, please give us some information!
Whom should we ask about these things?

Policeman:
I won't give you any information! [...] and I'll tell you then.

We haven't received any Court decision; we haven't got any information about the reason why they have been detained; the children have been detained and we haven't been told why; for three hours, we weren't told anything about where our children were.

The people who don't know where their relatives are have to write an application to the General Police Department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs states.

They have allowed me to write an application, to find out if she is here, to let me know if she is here, to tell me about it. And they said she would be found. But I've been walking around all town for her, until I could barely walk.

Although with difficulty, some of the lawyers say that they have managed to speak to the detainees.

According to the people in question, they [...] don't admit to [having done anything wrong]. I mean while they're being detained they give them three sheets of paper to sign, in which they admit having taken part [in the manifestations/under Law 164], that they will not do that any more in the future, and there is also a line which they need to sign, saying that no force was used against them. Which actually contradicts the facts; because according to the detainees, they have been beaten.

Part of the people who underwent a Court hearing yesterday were detained on Tuesday night; others were brought into the Police over the past two days, after having been picked up in the streets or in schools and universities. Also, policemen say that not all suspects have been detained as yet. Over the past few days, dozens of persons have been tried on the Police premises. Yesterday and today, the Mayor of the capital, Dorin Chirtoacă, has made two unsuccessful attempts to enter the General Police Department in order to meet with the detainees
