Landmark Tower, a former bank building, had once been home to the largest digital clock west of the Mississippi. Now vacant for several years and damaged by a tornado, the decision was made to demolish it by implosion. Because of the threat of bad weather the schedule was moved ahead several minutes, so I barely had time to get my camera into position before the building came down.
The overpass in the foreground is an Interstate Highway. I have often wondered if there might have been someone driving by who didn't know what was going on, and what they might have thought.
"Droning Bagpipes" was added on Oct. 13, 2008 using YouTube's Audio Swap Feature.
Man if I was on the road at the time, there's probably little chance I'd know about the demolition and would freak when I saw that!

@7revorBlack I've always wondered what people driving by must have thought, but traffic seems to be moving as if nothing unusual was happening. Maybe they put up signs.

Awesome! I hope no one was near that building and also must have been a bitch to clean up this new "Ground Zero" afterward.

Yeah, everyone was a safe distance away and most of the closer spectators had dustmasks. As for the cleanup, They had surrounded the block with empty semi trailers to help contain the rubble, so apart from having to hose the dust off of everything for blocks around, it wasn't too bad. It's a parking lot now.
