Bill Johnson, long-time Riley aide, cabinet member, campaign manager, and confidante, goes public on the steps of the State Capitol in Montgomery on his view why Riley is "cracking down" on electronic bingo. He states what everybody, including Sen. McCain and Congress, knew: Bob Riley took millions from the Mississippi Indian gaming interests in his campaign in 2002.
However, at the end of this press conference, Johnson also spill the beans that Riley's children stood to benefit from the governor's intervention on the Jefferson County sewer debt crisis, and the putrid smell of a $13 million no-bid computer contract for a shadowy company with no local address or website.
Local Montgomery TV reporter Eileen Jones does a good job standing in for the governor's people on this one, asking questions intended to impeach Johnson. However, Johnson does a good job handling these questions. It certainly looks like Johnson is telling the truth.
