  • Love to go there one day. My Father's Coat of Arms has the 3 Wolves that were on the Banner of St Columcille. He said his family descended from his kindred through Crinan. Always thought Columcille's life would make an excellant movie.

  • @LadyStonecut , indeed it would make a great movie. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  • He he, Isle of Iona @ the hemoroids :)

Just kidding, Im norwegian myself and very interested in history. This video reminds me of an old church (oldest in norway i seem to remember) by our western coastline. I suspect it was buildt by monks from irland or scottland

  • My Grandfather came from Norway. I would love to come see some of your old churches someday. I have seen some photos of Churches in Denmark that look allot like this one on Iona as well. Takk.

  • "The hatred of all religion is the new religion. It's zealots are as angry and hate filled as the the Grand Inquisitor. It's practitioners think they are in fact saving humanity. The world has never needed the Prince of Peace so much, methinks."

  • I've been to this place and witnessed a full red moon on the night of a Theatre Company performing a play of the life of St Columba - it was awesome!

  • We were there at end of July2009. The black cat walked on the stone wall near the garden when we were there. Nice to see these pictures. Love the music. We are going back in Sept2012. So pretty. Am from New Hampshire USA. My wife is a Gilchrist and was looking the name showed up someplace. Nay, but good excuse to go! thank you for the pictures and music!

  • Ah what inspiring music to ponder the history of the embattled Celtic Church and its foremost center of learning Iona. The amazing feature about it is that it was far from Catholic yet independent and ancient. Its patrons were rugged Christians who traversed the rugged landscape enduring militant paganism to raise Blood Stained Banner of Christ. Perhaps in days to come others will revive the ancient spirit of Iona.
