Excessive talking in the workplace is a problem. Learn how to build more effective relationships with people by listening. Listening is the most important skill in communication, yet these days, everyone is so busy talking, that no one is really listening. The greatest need of the human spirit is the need to feel understood, so use your two ears more often than your one mouth, and build relationships by showing an interest in other people first.

  • Is there not a Chinese proverb that says "Less is More"? If you listen to others, and restate to them what you have heard them say, you are better off than someone who talks too much about themselves, and listens very little. Thank you for interacting with this topic. ~ Penny

  • I worked with a guy who would never shut his yap. All day long it was story after story. It was so bad you simply had to walk away from in mid sentence or you couldn't leave. The only thing you could do is ignore him and hope he would "wind down" Sad to say he had few close relationships. He was a very nice guy but being around him was brutal!
