  • Do you happen to know what violin Hirshhorn was performing on--or does anyone?

  • I don't know for sure, but most likely at that time (1967 - one of concerts after Queen Elisabeth Competition) he was playing on one of State Collections instruments.

  • good grief! words escape me! its beyond perfect-such clarity and beauty I have never heard any violinist come close to producing, I am in total awe!

  • @2ndviolinist Hey 2nd violinist, you are a crass critic. I am glad you like the "old guys" like Sarasate and Kubelik who never made an electrical recording and their tones are not really captured by the early recording machines. In fact, those were two who's sound really never made it on the phonograph, although Sarasate sounds rough as hell in his few old-time recordings. Apples and Oranges Mr 2nd violinist.

  • @OriginalMoonbeam

There is something new in my videos with him at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam !!!

  • impresionante Phillipe HirShhorn !!!!! creo haber visto un video donde Janine Janine o Julia Fischer no estoy seguro hacian referencia a "el" por tu tecnica!!!!!

  • @OriginalMoonbeam

for the queen elizabeth it was a tomaso ballistieri, which he owned all his life.later he used a bergonzi on loan i believe.

  • Hirshhorn is a classic, now we should dare say it. In the same row with Paganini, Heifetz, Oistrakh and other great names.

  • @2ndviolinist You are kidding, right? Kubelik, "Sevcik's most celebrated VICTIM" and Sarasate who's few acoustical recordings show a rough, rough sound????

  • Crass piano playing. Hirschorn has amazing facilty but his tone is too edgy for me. The double stops around 4:52 are crunched. Listen to Prihoda playing impossible pieces for comparison. Sorry to be negative, just used to the "old guys", Sarasate, Kubelik, von Vecsey, etc. for show pieces.

  • @OriginalMoonbeam It was a Balestrieri.
