In a speech delivered at Osawatomie High School in Osawatomie, Kansas, on Tuesday, President Barack Obama argued that while a limited government that preserves free markets "speaks to our rugged individualism" as Americans, such a system "doesn't work" and "has never worked" and that Americans must look to a more activist government that taxes more, spends more and regulates more if they want to preserve the middle class.

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue against, certainly not my argument. Perhaps you just have a strong desire to call someone ignorant. :-)

I stated that the US is the LARGEST government in world history, not necessarily the most intrusive or oppressive, especially concerning domestic issues. You don't get to be the largest state in world history, by being as openly oppressive as the communists, nazi's, etc.

You gotta be more subtle about it.

My family came from Communist Poland buddy. To compare the intrusiveness and oppression that exists in the United States to anything that goes on in 3rd world statist countries is ignorant. You clearly have never experienced true tyranny. While I agree Obama is taking us further down that road, it still is uncomparable.

Larger? absolutely! The US has over 900 active military bases in over 150 countries. Yes, soviet empire was also huge, but it didn't/doesn't compare to the US empire in terms of scale.

More intrusive? With regards to foreign affairs yes, but, Domestically, Not yet. It does have the capacity and the power to be far worse.

The Constitution has either enabled such a government to exist, or has been powerless to prevent it. Either way it's unfit to exist.

"the largest state in world history"???

What are you talking about? Our government is larger and more intrusive than the Soviet Union and North Korea??

  • There is no such thing as limited govt, never has been, never will be. Any amount of government always begets bigger government, until it reaches the point of collapse.

The US "Limited Govt" experiment, for example, has resulted in arguably the largest state in world history

“Whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.”

  • Never worked? Roaring 20's didn't work when GDP growth was 7%/yr? Gilded Age didn't exist when per capita income increased 200% in 40 years? Reaganomics didn't work with 96 consecutive months of GDP growth and 15 MILLION jobs created? The 1919 Forgotten Depression: taxes cut 60%, govt spending cut 50%, and unemployment fell from 16% to 5% in 18 months didn't happen? Carter and FDR had booming economies? Clinton's bubble economy didn't crash? It's Liberalism that doesn't work, capitalism does.

  • bumper sticker--like "hope and change"... the left is all about bumper sticker thinking--their thinking never goes beyond a slogan....

  • Obama's nose is growing--one lie after another--he's disgusting

  • yea well fuck you
