Want to stop all those shaky shots and get a really smooth and professional looking video? Or perhaps you want a high angle shot in which the camera smoothly glides down from 12ft to the ground, all using a rig built for under £100? In this video, we'll show you how to construct a full sized camera crane, and demonstrate the results we got. Many thanks to RickVanMan and Indy Mogul for the ideas. Click on part one to see us constructing the dolly and putting together the track. [Available in HD]

  • Can you use PVC or metal???

  • @Homemadestuff101 Either should work fine! Just be careful with PVC as it bends so easily - make sure you don't use too heavy a camera.

  • where do you connecto your boom mic?

  • @TheMmv straight into the XLR mic slot on the camera.

  • Where did you get the money to get these nice cameras and mics??

  • @BrennanKnows Well - we only own one of the camera + mics which were second hand. The rest of the kit I borrowed from my parents who work in television. Whenever there are any spare cameras, we're free to help ourselves! Only downside is that we can sometimes be in the middle of a shoot before a channel 4 emergency pops up and they need to be rushed back to the "important people"! Hope this answers your question.

  • If this is too much trouble for some of you I would suggest looking into a Cam Caddie Scorpion to get smooth shots with. It's inexpensive and highly effective.

  • Where did you find the lazy susan bearing?

  • hey tom and joseph! can i suggest an idea? instead of making the dolly ,hollow out the middle of the wood on the jib arm, and where the jib arm mounts to the quadpod put 3 wheels and bolt on and in the hollowed out bit in the wood so when u pull or push the arm back it moves! good vid:)

  • Nice! Probably going to make one of these! Im using a Canon 550d for full 1080p video works well! I can also plug it into my macbook pro via usb and use the mac as a monitor using EOS utility when the camera is up in the air!
