The Harvard endowment was 36 billion dollars before the economic recession, it dropped to 25 billion. Even though the endowment is still huge, the loss is gigantic.
Include broader criteria in the selection process of all candidates, not just an arbitrary quota, with greater weighting on community benefit such as socio-economic background, ethnicity, work experience, life experience. Just off the top of my head. My gripe was when she tried to play the community-benefit card.
Here's a thought Ms Gilpin: how about better access to the University for those 99% of us who are not exceptionally gifted, and instead of professors sitting back, letting the gifted little darlings teach themselves, whilst being paid like health insurance executives, how about actually teaching real people the real knowledge and skills that will benefit so many more people in other communities other than those of the wealthy elite. Just a thought, if you're serious about supporting community.
harvard is bullshit. you pay like 40 thousand a year for public domain information. Fuck them and your money.

They do. Extra activities are a significant part of the admissions process, as is an essay to gauge life experiences, etc.
