In a sort of a shocking move, when the NASCAR Nationwide Series went to the Nashville Superspeedway on a warm June Saturday night, Marty Reid (who did the Indy 500 btw) took the week off. No biggie, that would put my all-time favorite NASCAR commentator in the booth, which is Allen Bestwick. Boy was I wrong. Instead, ESPN went to unchartered territory and went after pit road reporter Vince Welch to call the play-by-play. Boy did that turn out to be a bad decision.

Lack of excitement, many mistakes, focus on one driver......it was not a pretty sight nor anything pretty to listen to. I wasn't going to do this at first, but let's be honest here, someone has to step up to ESPN and say enough is enough. You have our coverage until 2013, at least give a crap about it. Why is Allen Bestwich STILL not the lead commentator (no disrespect to Marty Reid)? Why is Vince Welch, Rusty Wallace, and Brad Daughtery even have a job there? Why is Andy Petree STILL boring? We the NASCAR faithful want to see effort out of this company. FOX and TNT have problems of their own, but incomparable to what ESPN has. Time for them to start caring about the viewers they deliver to.

Anyway, after that short rant, here is a snapshot of Vince Welch's trip to the booth. Did you like it? Hate it? Let me know so I can see if its just me or not. I know it wasn't on the schedule and all of that, but I couldn't let this "opportunity" slip away "right now."

Oh yeah, do you know that DANICA is coming back next week? lol

Thanks to UnkownLogic again for the race.

  • who's better welch or bil weber

  • That's a tough one to choose from. Vince makes mistakes like there is no tomorrow and Bill Weber is one of the most stuck up broadcasters in tv history. I'd rather take the mistakes than someone that is full of himself.

  • I guess ESPN learned their lesson last weekend since they had Bestwick call the race at Road America today.

  • Oh yeah! It is so much more enjoyable when Allen is in the booth calling a race.

  • @Kaseythehusky OK thats one of the best insults I've ever heard props to you

  • @Ultimate23Dragon I see what you're saying. The joke is basically reffering to the fact that none of the drivers exist nor were in the race.

  • @Spyker88 True, but there are no such drivers are Scott Winner & Brad Keller. That is what I meant.

  • @Ultimate23Dragon Thing is, he wasn't in the race, was he?

  • Who else besides me noticed that @gadgefan48 spelled Coleman Pressley's name wrong at 1:13?

  • @XXformula Actually the worst of all the ESPN commentators is Dave Burns. He is annoying to death. Vince is 2nd worst.

  • @Spyker88 Joke fail!... Robert Pressley is actually a real racer (Coleman's Dad).

  • ANYBODY is better than Marty Reid......with the all of his "getting dicey"...."get into the mix"....and my personal favorite Reid phrase "All Skate"......not to mention he sounds like he is speaking through gritted teeth at all times....and on top of it all he knows absolutely nothing about motorsports!!!

  • there's only 1 comentator im my opinion worse than Vince Welsh, and that is Bob Varsha

  • it sounds like hes saying "Just an all-guyer"?
