Philippine Earthquake Vulnerability: Marikina Valley Fault Ready to 'Give In' According to Geologist and CNN News
by vince on March 14, 2011

Marikina Valley Fault line
Manila documents on April 2010 about earthquake vulnerability release report from CNN.

Japan's massive 8.9 earthquakes wakes up and bring to everyone's attention, bringing to every Filipino mind that seems to be, "are we the next nature's victim?" and if that so, "what will happen to us?"

Philippine geologists are anticipating major earthquake termed as "Big One" to hit somewhere in Manila. Based 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti January 2010 geologist have come up with these expectations.

Last year report released from CNN containing the documentation of Manila's earthquake vulnerability referring the "Big One" in 'Marikina Valley Fault Line' as 'ready to give in,' according to our local Geologist Mahar Lagmay, at the same time an associate professor at the 'National Institute of Geological Science' at the University of the Philippines (UP).

Professor Mahar Lagmay said, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake would be like a '1000-Nagasaki atom bomb explosion below the 'Earth's surface' along the fault line in Marikina Valley.

According to 'Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology' Renato Solidum, he warned the residents living close to Marikina fault line to be aware of the tendency that buildings and houses could easily collapse when the ground is shaking, he said in ABS-CBN News report.

In a report published March 14, 2011 in a Daily Inquirer catastrophic scenarios can be cited by 'Pacific Strategies' based on assessments a high magnitude of earthquake hit Manila. Estimated damage can be 117,000 homes that would collapse or damage, 1.2-million homeless, damage purification plants and water reservoirs that would immediately cut off water supply about 4,000 connected points, estimated 30-kilometers of electric cables will be cut off and removing the power supply instantly across the metropolis and among others.

Furthermore, the CNN in 2010 report said, "If earthquake of 7.2-magnitude hit Manila, it is expected to damage 38% of homes, public buildings, and cause around 50,000 plus of possible deaths.

  • If a strong earthquake hits the Manila area, buildings will collapse and block all the streets and there will be zero capability to move cranes and heavy equipment to rescue victims. Since many Filipinos would rather pray the rosary than use contraceptive pills to control overpopulation, expect millions will die. Most building constructions in RP does not comply with code in order to save on money. Don't believe that only 50,000 people will die but expect millions will die due to no rescue.

  • @ItsmeYoureAJerk not all filipino's are dumb, just a lot of them are, that is why they are not doing anything to get their fellow Filipinos out of poverty.

  • it is sad, but it is true. corruption in the Philippines is very rampant. lol stupid people keep on voting celebrities into political offices is a good example of widespread ignorance. Im so glad we moved to another country.

  • @ItsMeYoureAJerk Shut up. I'm Filipino and that's not the way to talk about us like that. We couldn't do anything about it because we had to take care of the damage. So don't blame us if they took our money. Oh and by the way, your username is incorrect, you're the jerk here...

  • @ItsmeYoureAJerk Don't compare less fortunate to rich people don't you have any mercy, God knows what you are doing and saying to the other people.
