This is an excerpt from one of the sessions in the Muslim Research and Development Foundation's "Ijma' & Qiyas Sabeel Retreat" (www.iprogress.org.uk).
During an in-depth discussion led by Ustadh Abu Rumaysah on the topic of 'The Feasibility of Ijma'', and in particular discussion of the scholars of usul with respect to Ijma' and shadh opinions, Sheikh Haitham Al-Haddad (hafidhuhullah) interjected with some indispensable advice for looking at the topic in a practical way, in order to avoid the confusion we see today.
Any student of the Sabeel Retreats would no doubt testify to the immense benefit that Sheikh Haitham's deep insight can bring to students of knowledge trying to grasp and understand topics that are widely misunderstood today.
