Song: At The Ceili
Artist: Celtic Woman
Album: A New Journey

Tonight were going to meet some lads
As girls who dressed up gaily
And well be dancing till the dawn
Were going to the Céili

The lads they come from miles around
From Venice and Comaley
To show us all their fancy steps
Were going to the Céili

Theyre playing tunes on everything
From pipes to ukulele
It sounds so good you cant sit down
Were dancing at the Céili

All the boys we love so well
So handsome, young and charming
Theyre in New York and Boston now
They should be home here farming
My own true love has sailed away
To be an endless rover
Cause times are tough and he will save
To start a new life over

He writes me letters every week
To say how much hes slavin
And he promises that hell be back
Before the hay needs savin
But its hard to love somebody
That youre not in touch with daily
So Im looking for somebody new
Tonight down at the Céili

The winter nights are long and hard
And time goes by so slowly
I wish my true love he was here
And in his arms Id go
Hed whisper tender words of love to me
And kiss my lips so sweetly
And quickly Id surrender to
His manly charms completely

He writes me letters every week
To say how much hes slavin
And he promises that hell be back
Before the hay needs savin
But its hard to love somebody
That youre not in touch with daily
So Im looking for somebody new
Tonight down at the Céili
So Im looking for somebody new
Tonight down at the Céili

I only need someone tonight
Wholl make my heart beat fast
A handsome man with laughing eyes
Who smiles as he walks past
The harp may play in old time worlds
Hell twirl me round the floor
Hell promise me that I will be
His girl forevermore
His girl forevermore
His girl forevermore
Hell promise me that I will be
His girl forevermore

Im somewhat ill and bothered
That is really quite alarming
I have two lads pursuing me
And each of them is charming
One of them is dark and poor
One fair with lots of money
I dont know which one to choose
The flower or the honey

What on earth am I to do
Its driving me half crazy
Tonight Ill make my mind up
When I see them at the Céili

To be a poor mans wife will be
A life of washin' dishes
When a rich mans wife will surely have
Great luxury and riches

In comfort how I know
It wouldnt be too hard to wallow
And being poor is not much fun
Which one should I follow

What on earth am I to do
Its driving me half crazy
Tonight Ill make my mind up
When I see them at the Céili

Ive been lucky Ive found a lad whos handsome and a neighbor

And me Ive met a decent man whos friendship I will savor

And me Ive made my choice as well and in no way was it easy
But Id rather have a man for love
Then to be a rich mans lady

And that is how the story ends
Be true and never fail me
We got ourselves three men tonight
And we met them at the Céili

  • @jettiesgirl That is so true! It was like watching a play. When you see them live it just takes your breath away, because it's like you can't really believe that you're actually watching them perform in person. If anyone ever gets the chance to see them, go, go GO! You'll love it.

  • Pagan, Christian, Jewish, Pastafarian, or whatever. Why does it matter?

  • I'm not quite sure what the big deal is. I'm a Christian, and I believe Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.

What does that half to do with my love for Celtic and Gaelic music?

The lyrics don't have anything for or against my religion

It's almost like saying if you're American you can't like Russian music or if your Japanese you can't like German music. It doesn't really matter does it? It's a personal preference.

  • @EriksSecretRose I got the A New Journey CD from newbury comics (I believe) and it was a version that came with this song and a few other extras. As far as online goes, I'm not sure what to tell you for that.

  • All the religions be jelly, 'cause Pagans did their thing since the beginning of time.

  • I am a big fan I saw them live aww it was sooooooo beautiful,wonderful...AMAZING !!! This year I'll see them again at May 15 *smile* HAPPPY

  • @midnightfyre Sad, yet true.

  • @jeremyJ5040, Christian's don't want to claim anything Pagan and Jewish, Hebrews don't want to claim anything Christian or Pagan, Pagans don't really seem to mind who takes what as long as "Harm None, Do What Ye Will".

  • I absolutely LOVEE this song... I lovelovelove Celtic Woman, they have GORGEOUS voices and I love how you can hear their Irish accents in certain parts of the songgg<3 ..I swear, I was born in the wrong country. I love Ireland. lol

  • @claoufaeng So are a lot of practices used by the christian churches.

  • I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I saw this live in Antwerp :o
