If Magic Sam never strapped on a guitar he'd still belong in the pantheon of blues greats for that powerfully expressive voice. Add to that his amazing guitar stylings and he simply needn't take a back seat to anyone. The tragedy is the realization that his life was cut short at such an early age, literally on the cusp of stardom after a liftime on the chitlin circuit. My love for his music will never die.
