Audi plans to unwrap a thinly veiled concept version of its upcoming A7 next month at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The production version is expected to make its debut later next year at one of the major European shows, probably Frankfurt, ahead of the official production launch in early 2010.

The A7 is essentially Audi's entry in the rapidly expanding ranks of premium "quad coupes," a segment pioneered by the Mercedes-Benz CLS and joined in the past year by the Passat-based Volkswagen CC.

Speculation in Europe is that the production A7 will sport a variety of powerplants, at least in the European market, including a supercharged 300-horsepower 3.0-liter V6, a 395-hp 4.2-liter V8 and a monster twin-turbo 600-hp 5.2-liter V10 that's said to be reserved for the limited-edition RS7.

Transmission choices are said to include a six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch and eight-speed automatic.

Audi has released only this sketch of the car. More details should follow shortly.

  • @TheBrokenEclipse well, watever.there the same company and that was my point.

  • @RnB123100 Porsche own VW? please go back to post 2010, since Porsche was so badly hurt under the financial crisis, Volkswagen went around it, and bought all of its own shares back, along with 49.9% of Porsche.

So what has happened since then? well they have merged.

  • @TheBrokenEclipse porchse owns some of vw now (most of vw is owned by the goverment) .and vw owns audi and bentle and scoda and seat.audi also owns lambo,so all these companies are conected in a way.

  • @RnB123100 uhm... which is none of those you mentioned above...

Porsche is a small car maker, which tried to take on the big ones at Volkswagen group (audi, skoda, seat, lamborghini and so on), but couldn't do it, now porsche is owned by Volkswagen group.

But you are right, Ferdinand Porsche did design the Beetle, which the porsche takes a lot of its design language from.

  • @TheBrokenEclipse porsche owns a lot of difernt car companys

  • @RnB123100 what?

  • @claudyox That's the best thing i heard!!! Audi has the best of both worlds.

  • BMW is LOW GRIP AND PRESENT Mercedes BENZ is LOW GRADE.

  • porche made a cheap car called vw,then they made seat and akoda, then they bought audi who had bought lambo, then they bought bently, the they bought bugatti
