Homer (fiddle) & Calvin (one finger up-picking banjo) from a 1978 Pine Breeze Traditional Music Project field recording (issued on PB 005 "In The Field") with Don Holder (guitar) and Ron Williams (mando-cello)
I love this version and have for a long time wondered how Homer is tuned. Is he in "standard" tuning or GDGD? It would be nice to have a better ear to just tell by listening!
Fantastic post !! Played in the good old way !! That fiddle is tuned just right .. & the tempo here is genuine old-timey, all the way. Man, I could listen to this type of music all day .. & then dance to it all of the night, too ...
Calvin Chastain is my great-grandad, and this was really cool to find on youtube! I play the guitar now too, and I wished I would have started playing when he was still alive. This really made my day!
It just dosen't get any better than this!!
